The workplace can be a site of electrical hazards if one is not careful. Here is a list of electrical hazards that are common in the workplace and that you should watch out for.
Damaged Electrical Equipment
A piece of damaged electrical equipment could be part of a power tool, an extension rod, or a computer. But no matter the case, you should never try to fix the damaged equipment on your own. In the absence of the right precautions, this can lead to injuries. Any equipment that shows signs of damage should be unplugged immediately and should be looked up by a professional. Make sure that you do not come into contact with any frayed or exposed electrical surfaces.
Overloaded Outlets and Circuits
All power cords and outlets are designed to handle the strain. However, plugging too many items into one circuit can also overheat the outlet. Under some circumstances, it can cause a fire. Therefore, it is important that you do not overload one outlet. Instead, it is advisable that you seek the advice of a professional to find alternatives to the power supply.
Water
Everyone knows that water and electricity make a dangerous combination. If your workplace has wet areas, it can lead to a risky area. In addition, if there are wet electrical equipment, they should be checked before used. This is because any moisture in the equipment can cause a problem. Make sure that all electrical equipment is removed from sources of water and never handle electrical equipment with wet hands.
Improperly Installed Equipment
It is important that your workplace employs professional for doing any electrical installations. When electrical equipment is not installed properly such as without proper grounding, they can become a threat to the working place. In most cases, you will find that the wiring is not efficient to carry the electrical load. It is, therefore, best to call a professional when attempting any repairs so that the job can be handled safely.
